Who We Are

25 Years Sourcing Construction Materials
Now we sell it directly to end users.

In 25 years in the construction business, we got tired of surplus and seconds product being available only at the whim of local discount distributors. We founded Rhizome to put it in front of end users, delivered directly to your site.

From Surplus to Finished

An Excellent End Product, For a Fraction of Retail

One finish coat is all it takes to finish our siding/trim packages in a color of your  choice.

01

It arrives as surplus

This is factory-overrun siding, so a pack usually arrives with a few different colors mixed together. The boards themselves are A-grade — 90–95% inspect excellent — with primer and topcoat baked on at the factory.

Surplus siding going up on a two-story wall with the factory colors still mixed — gray, cream, olive and charcoal boards side by side
02

It goes up like any siding

Full 16-foot lengths are cut, nailed, and hung like any other siding. Don't worry about the mixed colors during install — they get painted over at the end.

03

One finish coat unifies it

Once the wall is up, spray it with a quality exterior paint — Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint (which we use) or similar. One coat through a commercial sprayer is typically all you need.

From Our Customers
I traveled from northern New York to purchase a pallet of the board and batten. The material was exactly as described and the pallet even had additional pieces of ventilated soffit that I needed, but didn't expect. Rob was very helpful with loading and had other trim boards that I was able to purchase while there. If I need more materials, I will definitely be contacting them.

How Delivery Works

Delivery is priced by distance from our Vermont warehouse — one fee per trip. A trip carries up to 4 units, so the more you take, the less each unit costs to deliver.

01Order & pay in fullYour units are reserved on our warehouse floor the moment you pay. No deposits, no pay-on-delivery.
02We schedule your deliveryWe call to set your delivery window as soon as payment is confirmed. Your order comes on its own truck — up to 4 units per trip, any mix of products.
03Straight to your siteOur driver calls ahead and delivers curbside or to your driveway — an accessible, flat spot. Unloading is either by a forklift you provide (each unit weighs about 3,800 lbs) or by rolling the units off the rollback bed. A strap can occasionally break during a roll-off, but we've used this method successfully with very little product damage.

Questions About
Delivery

When will my order arrive?

Your units are reserved the moment you pay, and we call to schedule your delivery as soon as payment is confirmed. Your order comes straight from our warehouse to your site on its own truck — no waiting on other orders.

How is delivery priced?

Delivery is priced at what the trip costs us to run: $100 per hour of truck time. Every delivery includes two hours of loading and unloading, plus drive time to your site and back based on your road distance from our Vermont warehouse. One trip carries up to 4 units, any mix of products, and the fee is the same whether you take 1 unit or 4 — so adding units lowers your per-unit delivery cost. Orders over 4 units take more than one delivery, each priced the same way.

What happens when the truck arrives?

Our driver calls ahead and delivers curbside or to your driveway — an accessible, flat location. Units come off the rollback truck one of two ways: with a forklift you provide on site (each unit weighs approximately 3,800 lbs, so it needs to handle that), or by rolling the units off the tilted bed onto a flat spot. With a roll-off, it's possible for some of these straps to break — but we've delivered this way successfully many times, and there tends to be very little product damage. The driver doesn't place, carry, or stage materials beyond the drop point. If no one is available at the scheduled drop time, the driver returns the materials to our warehouse — the delivery fee is non-refundable and a 20% restocking fee applies.

What condition is surplus material in?

Our siding is A-grade material with a B-grade factory finish — the boards are sound (they wouldn't have made it to the paint factory otherwise), but the paint may be in an overrun color, off-shade runs, or splatter from another color on the line. Packs may mix colors, and from thoroughly inspecting many packs, 90–95% of the material grades out excellent. Primer and topcoat are both baked on, and most customers respray in their own color — typically one coat with a high-performance exterior paint through a commercial sprayer.

How far do you deliver?

We deliver up to 175 road miles from our Vermont warehouse — that covers most of VT and NH plus parts of MA, NY, CT, and ME. Enter your ZIP to check your address. If you're beyond the range, warehouse pickup is available, or contact us about special arrangements.

Rather put your hands on it first?

You're welcome to visit our warehouse outside of Killington, Vermont to view the materials in person. Please give us a call to schedule an appointment. Viewing is by appointment only.
